I'm not ready to stop celebrating Christmas yet. For our Orthodox brethren it is still yet to come anyway. Here are some photos I took last year of the great station decorated for Christmastime.
Union Station was created as a result of the McMillan Plan as the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad decided to build one grand station as a fitting entry into the capital. The terminal, designed by Architect Daniel Burnham, was completed in 1907. The Pennsylvania and the B&O were then able to remove trackwork and terminals from the National Mall. Today the tracks leading out to the bridge across the Potomac run through a tunnel beneath the city.
