September 11, 2001 Lives in our Memory

Never Forget the Real 9/11...

The Cross found at Ground Zero. Photo by Samuel Li. CC

Our parents could tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing on that day in December when Japanese planes struck Pearl Habor. I will always remember that beautiful blue skied September day. It was the kind of day private pilots love to be able to get off work and put in some flying time. Then the sky was suddenly devoid of aircraft as Yamisaki's towers collapsed and the Pentagon burned. In Shanksville, Pennsylvania an airliner crashed into the ground.

We were under attack. We prayed. Firefighters and members of NYPD did their jobs... they were heroes! They were our fellow Americans.

You would think that the events of September ten years ago, like the attack on Pearl Harbor, would remain in the forefront of our National narrative. Sadly, there are many who would rewrite that narrative to Exclude the Events of 09/11 [click to read]. ht/Lynn

Photo Bias in the Wire Services???

"Say IT Isn't So AP, Reuters, AFP/Getty..."

2 Terrorists
Calling a terrorist a terrorist. THYME has its own biases as well, but we try to admit to them.

"You have to work pretty darned hard to find an unflattering photo of Michele Bachmann," I remarked recently. She's generally good for 'rule 5' [1.] on a bad day. Still, the local newspaper managed to find and print one in response to the Conservative victories in the 2010 elections. The editors of our local might be interested to know [or perhaps not] that I used to use the front page layout and photography selection to teach my kids about media bias.

A few examples that come to mind: The Republicans open an office downtown and it is buried on page 4. Barack Obama's downtown office rated a front page placement, with photo. Check the archives yourself. George W. Bush never got many flattering photos either, so don't feel bad Michele. Often the headline skews the bias of an otherwise balanced article. The page editor holds the power!!!

So it comes as no surprise, really, to see This Study [click to read] about media bias in photography.

Shattered Lens - Photo Bias Exposed in the Wire Services [click to read] from Honest Reporting will probably just confirm what you've already suspected as well.

NPR 'Rewards' Juan Williams for Honesty

Commentator Fired for Remarks Made on O'Reilly Factor

Engine Cowling

Last time I flew out of Dulles, it was the guy wearing a "72 Virgins Dating Service" tee shirt that got my attention. When Juan Williams says he's sometimes frightened by the sight of passengers in Islamic dress on an airplane, I think a lot of us can identify with that. Think of our parents in the days after Pearl Harbor. A Japanese person walking around Honolulu might have drawn some attention.

Certainly you might express such a sentiment without impuning ALL people in Islamic garb [or ALL Japanese]. if balding German men had destroyed the World Trade Center, I'd EXPECT you to be checking me out when I got on your airplane.

Still, NPR said Juan Williams' comments "undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR." That's the same NPR that ran a segment entitled: "How to Speak 'Tea Bagger.'" ht/RedState

'Willing Accomplices' in Media

Once Again Phil Proves Limbaugh's Accuracy

A.Z. Rainman Photoshop Satire

The Sad Saga of Phil's 'Letter to the Editor'

It all began with the News Leader's editorial praising the passage of Obamacare and casting opponents as... well, read Phil's response and you'll get the idea:

In the past, I had thought the Newsleader editorial board was staffed with a few well intentioned liberal-leaning journalists. With Tuesday's editorial I realize I was wrong. The board is made of some full time Democrat Party Apparatchiks.

The editorial was nothing but Democrat talking points and "progressive" group think. 34 Democrats break away from the party, and you call it unity. "Almost Immediate" delivery of new benefits is contradicted on the previous page of the paper. Your Rush Limbaugh line was so pathetically wrong that it is laughable. Any honest journalist knows that is not what he said.

The editorial says Republicans had "no viable alternatives." Even Speaker Pelosi was less partisan than the Newsleader. She said that there were 200 Republican Amendments included in the final bill.

The worst part of the editorial was the last paragraph, concerning the comparison of the Tea Party movement to racism. The Democrat party is and has been the party that divides people by race. It is the home of Ku Klux Klanner Robert Byrd. It is the party of Jim Crow and Black Codes. It was Democrat Sen.Harry Reid who called President Obama " a light skinned" man without "a negro dialect". President Clinton said that President Obama would be fetching coffee for him and Ted Kennedy.

The very first Black, Mexican, and female members of Congress were all Republicans. It was the first Republican President who sent Americans to die to end the evil of slavery. It was a Republican who wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. It was Democrats who filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Acts. It was Republican Senator Everett Dirksen wrote the language for the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1968 Civil Rights Bill. A. Phillip Randolph, a Republican organized Republican Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's March on DC for his famous "I have a dream" speech. It is the Republican Party that wants people to be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

When I saw Phil's letter, my bet was that the paper wouldn't even bother to print it. I was wrong [partially], the paper DID print the letter, minus the last two paragraphs!

We Turned On the News Disgronifier

It Helps Us Tolerate the MSM...

Radio
MSM Disgronifier in a secret location.

Did anyone ask why the word "TERRORIST" kept showing up in my posts about the subject on the photos of... er... terrorists? Well, I inadvertently left our own little fact checking device on and it has a nasty habit of displaying its Tourette's syndrome when we post certain people's photographs when it is turned on. As you can see from the examples I randomly chose below it does not mince words.

So I ran a copy of yesterday's News Leader through its poor little electronic brain and smelled smoke and burning wires. After replacing the tubes I made sure to test it on a smaller portion of the News Leader: Jim McCosky's Cartoon [click to view] [go to cartoon #11] and the newly repaired disgronifier produced a link to the wonderful work of Jerry Breen:

"A Gathering of Nuts" Jerry Breen, used with permission.

The disgronifier was happy again, so I checked out more of Mr. Breen's work at www.jerrybreen.com and it is really great stuff. He does architectural renderings too and has a really interesting entry in the WTC Memorial Competition.

I'm running Glenn Beck through the disgronifier right now to recalibrate it and then I'll turn it off for a while.
