New Lead Law Leads to Book Burnings!
Darn! I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried! City Journal Reports on the Fallout of a New Law Designed to Protect Children from Chinese Toys! [click to read]. This is really sad. Looks like good childrens' literature will become scarce as the federal government has now advised that children’s books published before 1985 should not be considered safe and may in many cases be unlawful to sell or distribute. I think of all those wonderful old book stores and finding those old biographies we used to love.
I'm hiding all those wonderful old books with Garth Williams' illustrations in them. Grandchildren will need to know what good kiddie literature is supposed to look like.
