Old Rag Mountain

Arguably the Greatest Hike in Shenandoah National Park

Old Rag Mountain
Old Rag Mountain, as seen from the Skyline Drive. It is five miles away.

This coming Saturday, Our youth group will once again scale Old Rag Mountain in Madison County. The mountain rises above the Hebron Valley where my Mother's ancestors settled after coming to this country from Germany as indentured servants. Driving up the Hebron Valley to hike this mountain, I feel like I am coming home. I know that my Mother hiked White Oak Canyon nearby as a girl. I don't know if she ever went up Old Rag, but it would be in character for her to have done so.

Here is a Hike Description [click to read] that I wrote about Old Rag.
