Jeffersonian Architecture as Jefferson Saw It
Pavilion X on the Lawn, restored to match Jefferson's original concept.
White columned brick houses, serpentine walls and lots of boxwoods. That is what comes to mind when Virginia architecture is mentioned, but the restoration of Pavilion X at the University of Virginia reminds us that Jefferson was not so much interested in creating a regional architecture as providing his students with the best models of classical form to be examples as they went on to create the architecture of the young republic.
The sand colored trim brings out the reproduction of a Roman facade, which would have been stone.
