Ken Duncan's Photographic Journey

Walking with G-d in America

America
A friend gave us this beautiful book for Christmas. Everyone should read it.

It begins with a quote from Abraham Lincoln: "At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean, and crush us in a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasures of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trail of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." He spoke these words in January 1838 in a church in Springfield, Illinois.

The book ends with the famous quote from Alexis de Toqueville: "America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."

The author shows us the rich beauty of all fifty states in his stunning photographs. His text and photography notes will inspire you for the work and prayer ahead as we work to preserve the treasure that is America.

Mr. Duncan has captured some of my favorite places. There is an amazing shot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and some vivid images of White Oak Canyon in Shenandoah National Park. Denali is captured in two amazing images, one by day and one by moonlight.
