This Story [click to read] in World Net Daily is consistant with a disturbing pattern:
"President Obama has picked to advise him on military actions inside the U.S. the Missouri governor whose state "Information Analysis Center" last year linked conservative organizations to domestic terrorism and said law enforcement officers should watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers from Ron Paul or Chuck Baldwin."
Military actions inside the U.S? What does Obama mean by that? Especially when foreign terrorists are being put into the civilian court system and their acts of war are being called "Man Caused Disasters."
One gets the distinct impression that Mr. Obama's war is not with the terrorists, but with the American people.
Consider the implications of government programs that are not about solving problems, such as the healthcare bill, but are all about growing government. 'Cap and Trade,' a tax on energy we can ill afford is another example. Who do these policies actually help? Who do they harm?
Indeed it is time for the President to stop lecturing us on 'bipartisanship' and actually listen to the concerns of the 'Loyal Opposition.' One gets the impression he's digging in for a long fight though.
The elections in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachussetts are a resounding mandate to change course. The well thought out proposals of Bob McDonnell, Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin stand in stark contrast to those that promise "Hope and Change," but only if you let the government expand to unmanagable proportions to finance it.
Here is the 'companion' TIME Issue [click to read]. I was told that since many Conservatives don't bother to look at the 'Professional' weekly news magazine anymore, someone might miss the full impact of my 'cover commentary.'

Only Cass Sunstien could find joy in this story. California farmers are being denied vital irrigation and watching their land become a dust bowl, all to protect a tiny fish! Sunstien, as you know, goes so far as to say animals should have legal representation. What exactly are they teaching at University of Chicago Law School these days?

I read 'The Grapes of Wrath' when I was much younger. It is a heart-wrenching story and the notion that our government should be active in creating more such suffering is an outrage. But lest you think this is just about some farmers out in California, Cap and Trade looms on the legislative horizon. This legislation has the potential to put many people out of business by cutting off the energy we need. In the current administration's eyes, every one of us is an 'Oakie.'
It's the last day of Summer and the dogwoods are already brilliant.

'Hope and Change'
Schumer Stumps for One Party Rule...
2010 Election Calendar included with letter.
"It's going to take more than two years to undo the damage of the Bush administration," a letter to Democrats from Senator Charles E. Schumer dated July 31, 2009 direly begins. The letter urges Democrats to deliver President Obama a "filibuster proof" majority to "...overcome Republicans' repeated efforts to stand in the way of 'change' and 'progress.'"
Wow! Sound's like one party rule to me. Like it or not, these people seek to push unread legislation that would create massive changes in the way we live. All this from the people who promised to make government more open and accountable. How is nuking opposition 'reaching across the aisle?'
The letter goes on to explain how filibusters are 'negative.' "Because of the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney are on the radio and TV day after day, taking nasty swipes at the Democratic Party and President Obama. They have no interest in bridging divides. They just want us to fail."
Amen! I sure don't want Canadian style Nationalized Healthcare. Nor do I want 'Cap and Trade' laws that will tax energy we need into unaffordble and destroy American competitive ability. A Democrat majority; would it have spared us Freddie Mac under Franklin Raines? I think not. Our founding fathers were wise to acknowledge human depravity by setting up a system of checks and balances. We dare not disarm them now.
To understand why many Americans are understandably skeptical of overreaching government control in their lives, one simply has to look at the flap surrounding The Death Book for Veterans [click to read] as mentioned in the WSJ by Jim Towey. Towey begins:
"If President Obama wants to better understand why America's discomfort with end-of-life discussions threatens to derail his health-care reform, he might begin with his own Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He will quickly discover how government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care.
Last year, bureaucrats at the VA's National Center for Ethics in Health Care advocated a 52-page end-of-life planning document, "Your Life, Your Choices." It was first published in 1997 and later promoted as the VA's preferred living will throughout its vast network of hospitals and nursing homes. After the Bush White House took a look at how this document was treating complex health and moral issues, the VA suspended its use. Unfortunately, under President Obama, the VA has now resuscitated "Your Life, Your Choices."
Without checks and balances, what other 'choices' are we likely to lose control of?

The Danger of 'Fast Fixes'
Unintended Consequences of Rushing
In the 1970's an earthquake levelled Managua, the Capital of Nicaragua. Humanitarian aid efforts were quickly initiated to help the victims. Agencies determined that they should send food to the ruined city as soon as possible. Too bad no one actually took the time to look at the situation a bit more carefully. Yes, Managua lay in ruins, but the surrounding countryside was relatively unscathed and the donated food only served to wipe out the agricultural economy.
Had the well-meaning bureaucrats simply concentrated on restoring infrastructure, Nicaragua's farmers would have happily fed the country themselves.
There is a lesson here for those who would push massive unread bills through Congress to deal with healthcare 'reform' and 'Cap and Trade.' What are the consequences of these proposals?
When President Kennedy wanted to send a man to the Moon, a ten year program was proposed. There HAD to be time to scope out the problem and desgn creative solutions. Likewise the redesign of American healthcare is complex and the components of any solution need to be sufficiently analyzed before they become the law of the land. Bad fixes are almost always more trouble to repair than a more reasoned process of getting it right the first time.
Indeed it would be a great time to open up the discussion of real solutions. Solutions that include tort reform and settlement caps that would lower the cost of care. Insurance competition and a regulatory structure that allows people to shop across state lines and form more viable groups for independent contractors should be part of this discourse.
The Carbon Tax should be openly discussed as to its true impact on the American economy. Certainly we should continue to develop better, cleaner and more local sources of power and we need to develop our energy resources at home. Energy independence is a necessary goal and should be pursued with the same determination that took us to the Moon.

These representatives voted for the regressive Carbon Tax. Are you feeling underrepresented yet? Notice that all these representatives come from areas within the known range of the RINO. Hopefully Virginia's two senators will see this bill for the job killer that it is.
The science is still inconclusive on 'Global Warming.' Polar bear populations are INCREASING contrary to the hysteria about them all drowning as the ice flows shrink. Polar bear encounters are on the increase at places like Prudhoe Bay. The one thing that IS clear is that if you work the numbers the Carbon Tax will eviscerate the energy industry. That means lost jobs and slower recovery.
John Boehner points to independent studies that show a national energy tax will put millions of Americans out of work. The Heritage Foundation estimates it will cost the average family "nearly $3,000 per household per year." The Wall Street Journal says it is "likely to be the biggest tax in American history." President Obama himself said under his "cap and trade" plan, "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." How is that going to make American companies more competitive in the world market? The bill itself recognized that some 'relief' would be necessary for lower income energy buyers. It ignores the damage done to their "rich" employers who must buy energy to produce their product or service.

We're about to be blindsided. Cap and Trade, the Carbon Tax is scheduled for a vote tomorrow. Make some noise with your representatives. If you think the price of gasoline is bad now just wait until the 'carbon tax' is added.

Earlier today I posted about some 'bad advice' being handed to Bob McDonnell by pundit Larry Sabato. When I saw this I realized there is indeed an America that has been cast aside by the political 'elite.' Sadly, it is the noble experiment that Tocqueville and so many others observed in our Nation's youth.

I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me.
There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?
Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:
One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.
Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.
Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.
Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.
Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!
Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.
Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.
Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why ‑‑ what do you have against shareholders making a profit?
Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.
Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band‑Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.
Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try ‑‑ please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.
Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.
Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.
I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.
We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you.
You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.
Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? When I saw this I realized there is indeed an America that has been cast aside by the political 'elite.' Walter Willams Reports on the Next Revolution

"In 1994, the Colorado Legislature passed a 10th Amendment resolution and later introduced a bill titled "State Sovereignty Act." Had the State Sovereignty Act passed both houses of the legislature, it would have required all people liable for any federal tax that's a component of the highway users fund, such as a gasoline tax, to remit those taxes directly to the Colorado Department of Revenue. The money would have been deposited in an escrow account called the "Federal Tax Fund" and remitted monthly to the IRS, along with a list of payees and respective amounts paid. If Congress imposed sanctions on Colorado for failure to obey an unconstitutional mandate and penalized the state by withholding funds due, say $5 million for highway construction, the State Sovereignty Act would have prohibited the state treasurer from remitting any funds in the escrow account to the IRS. Instead, Colorado would have imposed a $5 million surcharge on the Federal Tax Fund account to continue the highway construction."
Here's a good reason to make VDOT transparency a priority. Federal mandates are a major waster of state resources.
Global Warming Treaty with the Brits [A Cautionary Tale]
In light of the observations presented by Mr. Williams, it behooves us to call our state officials to account with increased seriousness. Consider the following press release [which I am NOT making up] from Governor Kaine's office:
RICHMOND-Governor Timothy M. Kaine and Her Majesty's Ambassador to the United States, Sir Nigel Sheinwald of the United Kingdom, signed a bilateral "Climate Change Action Agreement" at the Virginia Capitol today that commits each government to the common goals of combating the effects of climate change and developing a more climate-friendly economy.
"Virginia and the UK recognize that climate change is a global phenomenon and combating it requires global partnerships," said Governor Kaine. "Sir Nigel and I believe this agreement will help bring together Virginia and UK researchers, entrepreneurs, and environmental educators to achieve greenhouse gas reductions, promote energy efficiency and independence, and promote the development of a green economy."
Virginia is the fifth state to enter a bilateral Climate Change Action Agreement with the United Kingdom—joining California, Florida, Wisconsin, and Michigan in a growing global effort to address climate change issues. Under the terms of the agreement, Virginia and the United Kingdom jointly agree to:
Promote policies that cut emissions and develop a green economy at home.
Promote market-based policies that reduce emissions globally.
Improve scientific understanding of climate change's effects.
Develop technology to mitigate and reduce the effects of climate change
Encourage climate-friendly economic development.
Raise public awareness of the effects of climate change.
As Virginia and the UK work together on strategies to combat global warming, their governments will seek opportunities to share relevant research and encourage trade in alternative and renewable energy technologies. In particular, the agreement signed today advances a number of recommendations made by the Governor's Commission on Climate Change launched in 2007 by Executive Order 59 . It emphasizes the importance of a market-based cap-and-trade program designed to limit carbon dioxide emissions that are contributing to the earth's warming. Great Britain currently participates in the European emissions trading program, which has a goal of reducing greenhouse gases on a continental scale by 8% below 1990 levels by 2012. Governor Kaine has long advocated a federal, nationwide cap-and-trade program to bring about annual CO2 reductions in the United States and has proposed a 19% reduction in electricity consumption in Virginia by 2025, the top recommendation of the Governor's Commission on Climate Change.
The Virginia-UK agreement also recognizes the two governments share research interests and assets, especially in offshore renewable energy production. The Virginia Energy Plan, released by Governor Kaine in September 2007, encourages research and development of the state's coastal resources for energy production—including offshore wind, current, and marine biomass production. Virginia's colleges and universities and the Virginia Costal Energy Research Consortium are considered leaders in the development of this technology domestically while the UK is recognized internationally as a leader in offshore tidal and wind energy research and production.
"Today the UK and Virginia sign an agreement to strengthen our relationship and to work together to cut emissions, increase the use of renewable energy, and better understand the science of climate change," said Sir Nigel Sheinwald. "Meeting the challenges of energy security, economic growth and climate change will define the economic and environmental health of our two countries, and of states like Virginia, in the 21st century."
Today's announcement comes as Governor Kaine continues to move his "Renew Virginia" initiative. Renew Virginia is focused on promoting renewable energy, creating green jobs, and encouraging preservation of the environment.
